Chevrolet has a lot riding on its second best-selling vehicle.

Say what you will about crossovers, but the body style is currently the most popular one in the United States. The Chevrolet Equinox, for instance, is the automaker’s second best-selling vehicle behind the Silverado. Chevy, then, needs the all-new 2018 Equinox to be a hit. And judging from recent reviews, it looks like it’s on a steady drive straight to the top.

Recently, The Fast Lane Car spent some time with the crossover and found it to be the complete package.

The Fast Lane Car credits the new Equinox as being a large improvement in the handling department, especially when compared to its predecessor.

The more stable handling most likely is due to the vehicle’s lighter, stiffer and smaller chassis and structure. The crossover went on an extreme diet to lose 400 pounds.

“Overall, the lighter Equinox carves a twisty mountain road with the best in the class,” says The Fast Track Car. “The handling has been greatly improved.”

Another new feature that The Fast Lane Car enjoyed is the new powertrain. Initially, the Equinox will come with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft. of torque.

The torque figure is what really impressed the publication’s test driver, as it made driving around town and on the highway enjoyable.

“The 2018 Equinox is a complete package and it left a very good first impression,” writes Fast Lane. And we could not agree more.

The new styling of the Equinox is not only aesthetically pleasing but it also helps the crossover streamline through the air. The 2018 vehicle features active grille shutters at the front that help it achieve 32 mph on the highway for the front-wheel-drive model, a figure that The Fast Lane Car was impressed with.
