Chopped Chevy Rat Rod Will Confuse Your Emotions in a Good Way

There are a few different ways to own a truly unique car, something that is rare and special to you that would wow or surprise at a car show. You could go the hyper-expensive route and get something like a McLaren or Rolls-Royce, which are bespoke to each customer, but you’d obviously have to be in a certain tax bracket for that.

You could buy a regular car and customize it to your taste, but it’d still sort of be a car everybody else has. Or, if you’re really ambitious, you could build something from existing parts and pieces of other cars and put together something that nobody else has, like this 1947 Chevrolet rat rod.

s-l1600-2When you first look at it, you kind of squint your eyes in wonderment and question, “what in the hell is that thing?”

Well, allow us to explain. It started as a 1/2-ton Chevy. The engine is a 5.3-liter LSX from a  2005 Chevrolet Tahoe, and that’s linked to a turbo 400 transmission.

The rear frame is off of a ’95 Mercury Cougar, and the front is from a ’95 Chevy S10. So, an independent rear suspension, and the front has Bilstein drop spindles.

s-l1600-6According to the seller, the vehicle has won all sorts of trophies at car shows, has done its fair share of burnouts, and has even won an autocross event.

Of course, the style points are way up, as well, in part thanks to that wing, and the crescent wrench shifter. Not to mention, it apparently gets 19 mpg.

The seats are racing-specific and have four-point harnesses, the steering wheel is removable, and there’s no speedometer, only integrated oil pressure and water temperature gauges. Again, the cool points are very real with this thing.

After it was listed on eBay, somebody purchased it for $7,200. I wonder if the buyer asked for a CarFax.
