Drag-racing Corvette Crashes into Airplane!

Partying duo’s clever idea to race ‘Vette and Porsche on airstrip is more Dumb & Dumber than Fast & Furious!

We’ve all watched plenty of car shows on TV where the cool thing to do these days is take fast vehicles out to the airfield and ring them out. But such scenes are filmed under controlled conditions, with prior consent from the the folks that run the airfield. Because, you know, you don’t want any planes out there when you’re driving at high speed.

Regardless of this logic, a couple of grown men in Spanish Fork, Utah, decided they were going to reenact such a scene without bothering to tell anyone first. Yep, it actually happened.

The two men were attending a party at one of the Spanish Fork-Springville Airport’s hangars when they decided to figure out whose car was faster. With one guy in a Porsche and one guy in a Corvette, they lined up and took off down the dark runway.

And the finish was, quite simply, epic, but not because the drag-racing duo proved a good match for each other. Rather, it’s because the Corvette crashed into a plane parked on the runway!

The finish was epic not because the drag-racing duo was a good match.
Rather, it’s because the Corvette crashed into a plane!

Fox 13 News was there to capture the story and the aftermath. Thankfully, the ‘Vette only clipped the wheel of the stationary plane, which had a teenaged pilot-in-training sitting inside. The pilot, who had just finished a lesson, said that the Corvette was traveling so fast that he never even saw it coming.

The drag-racing ‘Vette’s driver was also unhurt, unless you count his damaged ego and a reckless driving charge. He’ll probably also have a bone to pick with the party host, who reportedly radioed the drivers to tell them the runway was clear. But in the end, he can only blame himself. So just remember kids, if you want to reenact one of those cool TV-show scenes, be sure and get somebody’s permission first.
