Truck not getting all that much power
First of I'm new to this forum. been looking all over for a thread that might help but I'm not getting much so.....
I have a 1998 k2500. The other day I'm at a red light idleing and when it turned green I hit the gas and the truck died. I towed it to my buddies house and began the troubleshooting. summary of the job, I replaced the fuel pump relay, fuel filter and fuel pump. went to start it up and found I was blowing the ecm_-b fuse when the key was in on position, not even cranking yet. so I start tracing wires looking for my short...
Found that the harness that ran from the under hood fuse box to behind the distributor was wrapped around the steering column. How, I don't know, but seems like previous shotty mechanic work. found plenty of exposed wire. with that being said I made the repairs properly. still blowing the fuse with key in on position. further trouble shooting...
Took apart the under hood fuse box to inspect the wires there. jumping the fuel pump relay and watching the fuse do its thing (with the previously mentioned harness disconnected} led me to that. realized that my issue was with the grey wire supplying the fuel pump {from pin 86 if I remember correctly} ran a new power feed to the pump and sure as, pump turns on, fuse doesn't pop. so I think, at this time, all is well...
(including all this so anyone responding knows what ive done and where I stand)
So, took it for a ride to clear things up and now I feel as though there's a loss of power. from a dead stop and at WOT there seems to be no power. I'm not getting pulled into my seat. when doing about 50mph and going WOT, she down shifts but doesn't go much faster. however, when normal stoplight driving, I seem to have plenty of power. any ideas? maybe its obvious, maybe my head is foggy because ive been under my truck for the past 3 days during our snow storm. much thanks in advanced
