I have a 2004 and also don't know where the fuel filter is located.

Perhaps it actually is INSIDE the tank. Some vehicles today have "lifetime" fuel filters that supposedly never need changing. Not sure about the Silverado.

not sure the exact year the returnless fuel system started but it could be 04. my 00 has a external filter my 06 did not. check the fuel rail and if you only see one line not two, its returnless.

typically, since the pump only pumps the amount of fuel it needs, the filters last the lifetime of the pump. 50000miles for a system with a return = 200 000miles for a returnless system to pump the same volume through the filter.
