Hi there,

I am building a 350 engine for my chevy II project car.
Since I live in Argentina parts avalability is almos zero so I am gathering parts from here and there.
this is what I got:

Block
Casting # 3970010
bored 0.030 over
flat top hypereutectic pistons

I have 2 sets of heads:

# 462624

and

# 3748772
Both heads sets have been just rebuilt with no porting or polishing on them. They have standard valve sizes.

I need to know wich of these heads will work better on the engine with performance in mind not MPG.:D
Any advice will be highly appreciated since there are no real specialist around here.
Thanks in advance.

maby u could get a sbc book from ebay that deals with casting #s and such. that wold be the most reliable thing to get your info from. worth a shot anyway.

I did some research and these are the facts:

# 462624
this are 350 pick up truck heads (prone to crack)

# 3748772
this are 283 heads, maybe from a fuelie vette

I need to kow wich ones will produce more power and are more reliable for the block I have.
Please someone let me know what happen if I use 283 heads on a 350 block.
thanks a lot

i would think that the 350 truck heads would match better. iv heard of ppl going up with head sizes. like a 305 block with 350 heads, but i would think that a 283 head would be 2 small of a combution chamber.

THE LAST 350 I BUILT WAS VERY CLOSE TO WHAT YOU SAY YOU HAVE NOW. I USED THE 882 CASTINGS WHICH WERE TRUCK HEADS FROM THE LATE 70'S. I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THEM. I RESEARCHED THE HEAD CASTINGS FROM ARTICLES IN www.hotrodmagazine.com. THATS A GOOD PLACE FOR INFO. THEY DO A LOT OF COMPARISONS IN THEIR ARTICLES.
