I did a partial tune up on my 1990 4.3 S10.
i am definately a novice at this. and need some help

By partial i mean:
rotor cap replaced
new wires
new plugs (gaped properly)
I couldn't relpace the two hard to reach ones on the right) by the steering column.

I also sprayed a lot of carb cleaner into the carb as it was really dirty.
(while was running and accelerated as per directions)

after

The truck excelerates well and runs great. BUT
When i come to a stop the engines idle is kinda weird.

It seems kind a hesitant and jerky. but then resumes good idle.
I also noticed a faint ticking sound that wasn't there before.

Could it be all that carb cleaner blastng out all that gunk?
I haven't replaced the fuel filter yet.

any help or advice wol be great

to do the two on that side its best to take out the iner fender and go in that way that also why its idling rough i would bet.

ill bet its the two wires, the new ones transfer the charge faster and more evenly so you hav 4 cyl running good and tow that are behind because of older wires, and if you didnt do thoes wire i doubt you did the plugs, thoes two old ones are probly fouling up the idling.........same with cruising if you have done that at all

First of all, those two plugs can be reached if you jack up the driver's side and reach through the opening in the wheel house over the wheel with a long extension on your socket (a "wobble" extension usually works best). I would double check the firing order at the cap and the plugs. It's 1-6-5-4-3-2, turning clockwise. Driver's side is 1-3-5 from front, passenger side is 2-4-6 from the front. HTH.
Good Luck and God Bless,

I have a 91 4.3 4x4, I did my d/s with a spark plug socket, 3/4 socket, u-joint, extention, and ratchet. You can do it, and will learn you have to get creative sometimes. I would get the rest of the plugs changed, then go with a fuel filter. If it is really bad it could be a knock sensor but your engine light should be on for that.
