hey i am new to the chevy world was a ford guy but trying to change that. i have a 93 mustang that i am trying to make in to a very nice street/strip car. i would like to try to get about 300 maybe 340 hp out of the engine maybe later on add a sc to it. tell me what would be my best bet here? i have been hearing the 400s have tons of torque.

if you want to do it a bit cheaper i would go with the 350 you can do anything you want to them for cheaper then just about any other motor and get good hp. and torque from them. hope this helps a bit.

id say it would be very easy to get up to 400 hp with the 350. depending on what you know you could get 500 or 600 hp with it but thgen you are taking away the steetabilty of the motor. i would say that 340 would give you lots of power and still give you daily driver depenability.

I don't know what year (or if) GM revised the 400 small block, but it used to be that the 400 had overheating problems. The water jackets were too close (thin walls) to the cylinder bores, especially the center bores on each bank. In high performance use the motor would run very hot. This would cause longevity and performance problems.

They may have taken care of this, but just in case it still applies you should be aware.
