We just need a how-to section. It should be moderator controlled. When a how-to is made, the op should send it to the moderator and at that point either the moderator can choose to make it a how-to or refuse for miscellaneous reasons. Thus way we can just keep all the how-to's in one area.

How to related stuff should be: videos, threads with pictures, extensive detailed posts.... ect.

Stuff like videos of how to do pads and or drum brakes. It's generic. Something that everyone can stand to gain from. There are multiple things similar to this that can be applied to multiple vehicles.

I think thats a good idea, it could prevent having 14 different HT's on one particular model. They ( in my mind ) should be ASE approved. It scares me that one could tell someone for example how to properly put a jackstand in place, then get hurt. Iam just very cautious about that. Maybe its just because I have spent 15 years in the amusement ride industry working with and for OSHA( CALOSHA, the amusement ride division). I could tell you everything about procedures on roller coasters but that does not apply here.:)

Mike, How about shawnvw approved, or maybe MDTAHOE approved? I'd really like to see someone get a reply when they submit an article to the ASE for approval. lol

Slightly different to what OnDaGround suggested, we are slowly adding DIY and Useful Thread subsections to different sections of the forum as they are needed. I left them open for folks to post replies, but not create new threads. That way, they can discuss the article within its own thread.

Well, maybe "approved" wasnt the right word, just moderated well, I think what you guys are planning will be very useful, safe and easy to understand. Thats what I meant , just having the staff & the ASE guys here look them over for any adjustments or comments.

Procedures and safety are critical, but yeah us shade tree guys would really appreciate this kind of thing, especially computer tuning and such. Great idea!!

Exactly! Thats one of the reasons I am here, to learn how the inner workings of my vehicles computers think. I know general workings of all the parts but want to know how they communicate.

This is exactly what I meant. The OP submits the How-To thread to the mods. The mods approve of it. And it is left open for conversation. However you can add comments to a thread you cannot make a thread in the How-To section without approval. Just call it the How-To Library and add it to the forum jump.

Yeah usually when a section starts to get congested with stickies (5 or more), I'll get the DIY and Useful Threads subsection added. Did that so far for the S10 & Blazer and Tahoe sections. Eventually we will have a subsection for most every section ;)
