View Full Version : 3spd to 4spd conversion 63biscayne 11-10-2006, 01:16 PM hello again, I have a 63 Biscayne/Impala with a 3 spd on the "tree" transmission. what is involved in converting this to a 4spd on the floor manual shift? and what transmissions are compatable? 70mopar 11-11-2006, 04:09 AM the swap is pretty easy since your car is already a manual trany'd car. u could use a B.W. T-10 from the Camaro's, but if u r going through the trouble to upgrade your "3-on-the-tree", why not go 2 a 5 spd. and benifit from an o.d.? u can then run higher gears, get better acceleration, and still benifit from reduced highway RPM's. u will probably need 2 relocate/fabricate the cross member, shorten the driveshaft, speedo cable length probably won't match, and u need 2 cut the floor of course. if u r looking @ getting a newer trany w/o.d. and want a hydraulic clutch, look towards the Street Rodder's, they've got all kinds of neat $hit for type of thing. IMO, getting the clutch situation resolved & working smoothly is probably the biggest headache u'll have (& not that big of one either). good luck |
