i doubt ifmany noticed that i haven't been logged in for quite some time, but i had a little mishap the first weekend of December. i was on my way home from down south where i had just picked up an absolutely spotless '91 'burb when all hell let lose. the trip was supposed to start off with me picking up the kids from school @ noon on Friday and thengetting my wife @ her work, but my daughter had gotten sickin the morning@ school.since this is not how you want to travel with kids, my wife said it would be best if she stayed home with our two kids, but i should still go since all the arrangements had been set in motion (a blessing i later realized). so i left Fridayafternoon, taking my dog for company. made great time getting down to Florida. stayed at the hotel Saturday night andmeet the guy with the 'burb Sunday morning, settled the deal, loaded the truck on my trailerand headed for home. i was just outside of Lexington, KY, stopped @ a red light when all of a sudden i heard a screech of tires locking up and then the hardest impact i've ever felt in my life.
what happened next is still kinda a blur, but i remember being pushed out into the intersection and seeing bright lights coming @ the passenger side of my truck.
according to the witnesses, this guy in a 1 ton Ford crew-cab dullie with a dump box, came up to the intersection speeding (the police estimated his speed @ 80mph), hitting his brakes just seconds before he hit the Suburban on my trailer, broke the chains holding down that truck, pushed it (and himself) over the trailer into the back of my 'burb that i was towing with, and pushed all of us into the middle of the intersection. it was here that a 10 ton straight truck traveling West-bound hit just in front ofthe rear passenger door of my truck, driving overmy truckand the front of my trailer. i woke up 2 days later in hospital, with a dislocated shoulder, fractured arm and a broken eye socket. the guy in the Ford had to be cut from his truck, but all he recieved in the crash was a cut to his forehead from the steering wheel!
at first i was pissed about what had happen to my two trucks and my trailer, but when my wife showed up @ the hospital with the kids, my whole train of thought changed. i thanked God that our daughter had come down with the stomach flu, 'cause the crash would have killed my wife and her for sure, and at the very least, severly injured my son, if not killing him too. the only fatality was my dog who was laying down in the back of the truck (miss u alot buddy).
i haven't seen any pictures of the truck (my wife went to the impound lot to collect my personal belongings that were still inside it, she said there's nothing left my truck).
the police told me the driver that hit me had a blood alcohol level 4 times the state limit! and this was not his first time that he had been involved in an accident while DUI.
so, my Christmas Wish is this, if you're going to go out to a Christmas party, or a night out with the "boys" or just happen to get caught having had too much to drink, no matter what, please, don't drink and then attempt to drive, it's just not worth it.
i like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, i just hope we can all make it through the holidays alive.
peace.
