View Full Version : More Horsepower
cdubb357 01-31-2005, 09:08 PM I have a 01' 1500 Silverado and would like to get some more horsepower out of my 5.3Lengine. I have put on a K&N air intake and dual exhaust with Flowmaster, and that helped some but short of putting on a supercharger, what else make the Best improvements????

How well does a chip or computer programmer work??

Anyone have any hands-on experience as to how well they work?

Thanks

99On20s 01-31-2005, 09:10 PM how much was the intake and do you see improvement?
redneck_chev 02-01-2005, 02:14 AM try putting on a "Mass air flow censer" that should really bump up th HP
chrisselfz71 03-22-2005, 11:52 AM well if you want horse power trust me the chip or programmer is the way to go. sometimes even fuel mileage is increased! but you can also look for things like underdrive pullies and if you dont already have them electric fans. mechanical fans can drain up to 30 horsepower from an engine. throttle body spacer, headers, and sometimes a different type of filter intake helps. that k&n does flow better but not best. more flow in and out more horsepower.
99On20s 03-28-2005, 09:04 PM What Inake do you prefer?
jimbo310 06-12-2005, 02:08 AM New computer chip is the cheapest and simplest way to get more performance. They can be obtained from www.performanceproducts.com (http://www.performanceproducts.com) They also have a variety of other performance products as well. Running synthetic oil will also result in a slight increase in horsepower and better fuel economy and also protect the engine from the increased horsepower demands.

I especailly like the slight stallshifts, sometimes when the tranny is shifting i get a little chirp with the first shift. My truck came with a spicer 3.73 gear differential and i am thinking of upgrading to the 4.10 or 4.45 which should give a better hole shot.
miguegarza 11-30-2005, 04:30 PM Ah man dude you have to get a programmer. Look I have a homeboy who put the Hypertech Programmer III in his white 2000 silverado and damn let me tell you he scratched up to second gear. I saw that truck myself and it is a big difference and it dont cut off at 96 mph like mine. I am going to start saving up for mine its about 400 bucks but gives you a big difference to stock trucks....
Silveradotowpro 12-03-2005, 11:32 AM I have a 2000 Silverado. I replaced my stock exhaust with a raven system, added a throttle body spacer, air tech intake system, and reprogrammed with a superchipstuner. The added combination worked wonders. I increased my torque by 18% and my horsepower by almost 40%. Word of caution. I also tow a horse trailer with my truck. I deprogram the system when I do. I found my fuel milage went way south if I programmed the tow mode. The truck tows far better with better milage in factory settings. Just for performance, it kicks it. The superchips also has a diagnostic code reader. Nice feature.
426Hemi 12-03-2005, 04:15 PM Throttle body spacers really dont do anything. But actual throttle bodies do.

I'd say go with a good hypertech or superchips tuner.

FogDucker 12-09-2005, 12:48 AM I've got a 01 Z71 short wheel base 5.3 and I've the they Hypertech chip and a K&N Cold Air Kit, when I've got the chip cranked up it'll roast my BF Goodrichs, but they are too Pricy, so I keep her undercovers most of the time, it's still nice when a Hemi wants to challange you though.
boosted5.3 01-18-2006, 09:44 PM my 5.3 has a K&n intake a flowmaster muscle truck exhaust and a superchip. these parts realy helped out the truck its a lot quicker now than it was before and now it has 32 inch heavy ass tires
boosted5.3 01-18-2006, 09:46 PM i got my stuff from autoanything.com they have free shipping and the lowest prices and no tax
