Default Electrical

Ok. So the previous owner yanked out the alarm system because he lost the remote. We didn't find out until later after the van had no power one day.the electrical wires cought fire and melted. The wires around the transmission had to be replaced. Now when our mechanic friend took it. ALL the interior lights were working in the back. The track lighting, the tv. What want working was the front dash, and it wouldn't turn over. It was completely dead. Now. We got it back and it ran great the front half of the van was working but...none of our accessories work. Nothing in the back. Our tow light wires are gone... the buttons over head to turn in the back tv, lights and radio are dead...and now the battery won't charge...It's dead again. We can jump it and it runs fine...then shut it off after driving it for hours and it dies. It's completely drained. The mechanic friend said its a four hundred dollar part. We don't know the name of the part..He doesn't speak English. And the translator isn't sure...but thinks it's like a receiver? Does this make sense to any one? We are lost. I don't want to buy a 400$ part for a "maybe this will work" kind of thing.
