Default Front Rotors

First off Hello to everyone on here. New to the forum, not new to chevy though.
Vehicle in question is my mom's 1996 Chevy Astro 2wd. Not sure how many miles on it but it is in need of new brakes and possibly rotors up front.

I've been looking around for info and it seems that I will need to remove the axle nut in order to remove the rotor. Is this correct?

If that is so does anyone know what torque it needs to be tightened to.

Any other comments or tips would really be appreciated. I do okay with a wrench, not exactly a newbie at this but just wanted others' input.
thanks in advance and hopefully I can add my 2cents worth every now and then.
