Rear Dutch Door Liftgate Won't Open
Hello,
I actually own a 1998 GMC Safari with dutch doors, however I am having a hard time finding Safari forums, and the Astro is virtually identical to the Safari. I can not get the rear liftgate to open on my dutch door setup. I am able to press the button on the door, and I hear the electric actuator releasing the door, however only the right side releases, the left side remains "stuck" if you will, therefore the gate will not open. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thank You.

Your going to have to get the door skin apart from the inside, finding the latch and manually releasing it. then diagnose what went wrong and fix it. Could be a loose rod, or broken clip that holds the rod together, or the latch could be bad

I can tell you exactly what happened. Where the linkage hooks on to the latch on that side, the keeper that holds the linkage to the latch fell off. When I put it back on, I used some safety wire to lock it on.
