Air Bag Light On - "Service Air Bag"
When I started the engine the other day the air bag light stayed on and "Service Air Bag" was displayed on the instrument panel display. Nothing I am aware of happened to cause this. It does this every time the truck is started. Is there any solution short of going to a dealer to find out what happened and get it fixed?

...not without a scan tool and possibly srs load tools.
the air bag module (sdm) performs a state of health check of all the restraint circuits at start up and continuously. It has detected a problem and set a dtc in the sdm. the airbag system is disabled until the fault is corrected.
the dtc will have to be read with a scan tool. further diagnostic steps will be required once the dtc is known.

Thanks! I borrowed a scan tool and got code B0083 "Second Row Left Hand Seat Belt Load Limiter Deploy" I don't know if this is the correct description based on looking at DTC definitions found on the internet. My vehicle is a 2008 Avalanche. If this is the correct definition what is the fix?
I found on the Chevy Avalanche Fan club site that the 2007 Avalanche B0083 code is for Front End Sensor 1. If this is also correct for my 2008 then the solution is to replace the sensor with a Dorman 590-224 at about $90 from Amazon. Can anybody verify this code for the 2008 Avalanche?

I swapped the sensors and the code went from B0083 to B0084 so I now know that the left sensor was bad and have ordered a new one. The OEM part is 25896408.
