I feel your pain.
I have an '07 Avalanche and I had the exact same problem. When sitting at idel the heat was at best warm but as soon as you'd accelerate the heat would return to hot. After several trips for repair which included new thermostate/dexcool and a heater core flush and purge the problem was still there.
I noticed the coolant was low each day...I took it back and they found a broken head gasket. The leak was external. I never saw any coolant on the ground, it would drip on the exhaust and evaporate. After this warranty service the issue is gone.
I can once again remote start my truck then go out after a few minutes and have a warm / defrosted truck waiting for me.
PS. Although this was covered under warranty I asked what the dealer would have charged had this not been under warranty. i was told they charged GM $1,800 for the repair and if you had no warranty they are allowed to charge an additional 4 hours labor, approx another $320...ouch!

Best way is a coolant vacuum attachment that suck all air out before filling up with coolant.another way the replace the cap and it should be good.
