Hi everyone

I'm having a problem the the torsion rods in the truck of my cavalier. These are the two rods that act as springs to make opening and closing the trunk easier. i noticed that one of them was broken which was causing the trunk to slam shut.

So I went to my local scrapyard and got a new rod for it but i cant for the life of me get it back in. i can see where it needs to go but twisting it into that position seems impossible.

Im just wondering if anyone knows of a trick to getting this thing back in.
Do you have to take the trunk lid off?
I've just got to be missing something.
Any Info would be apprecitated
