I am working on a friend's 2002 Cavalier. The problem is that the car will run fine but then all the dashboard lights will begin to flash. All the lights. Where the mileage readout would be it will say "Error"

This problem will last until the car is turned off. Sometimes the car will restart and everything is fine again. Other times the car will not start or will start only for a few seconds. It may take hours before the car will start again. When it does ... it will run fine .... until the next time.

Here is the background:

A few days before this began the lights were left on and the battery was completely dead. Jumping the car did not help. (I think they did not leave the jumpers on long enough to recharger the battery.

Next the battery was removed and checked out. It tested good so it was fully charged and returned to the car.

The car started and ran fine but then the crazy dashboard light thing began.

Before the battery went dead the car ran just fine.
