Default Parking Brake adjustment, 2002.

I got my Cavalier from a family member last year. The hand brake has always been loose, even with new rear brake shoes.

Can someone point me in the right direction for adjusting the hand brake. The parking brake doesn't hold at all.

I've removed the console, checked behind the rear axle, but don't see any adjustment on either end of the cable assembly.

Welcome to the forum. The parking brake on your vehicle should self-adjust when you apply the brake pedal as you back up. I know of only one vehicle that this feature was lacking (old Chrysler K-cars). Take the rear drums off and check the adjustment mechanism.

Thanks for the note. I actually back-up down my driveway every morning. I'll check out the rear brakes by the weekend.
