Default 2006 Equinox - ABS going off in reverse

My ABS brakes seem to be going off when I back out of the driveway in the morning and turn to the left. I haven't noticed the problem when I have been going forward, if the car is warmed up or if I back out and turn to the right. Any thoughts on what the problem might be? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. That's the oddest expression I've heard in a long while. What do you mean by "ABS going off" and just which direction are you turning the steering wheel (while still in reverse, I assume) when the symptom occurs?

Thank you. By ABS going off I mean it kicks in and the pedal pulses. I am turning the steering wheel left.

Okay, I can't say I've ever heard of ABS engaging in reverse. I don't know why but this sounds like what someone may call into that car show on PBS with two guys. The guys will probably have a good laugh and then give an answer. You could pull an ABS fuse (I think there should be at least two, one for the EBCM and another high amperage one for the EBCM motor) and then see if you can recreate the issue. Once the ABS warning light is on, your brakes work without any ABS interference.

false abs activation can occur from incorrect signals to the ebcm from one of the wheel speed sensors. the dealer can record the abs data when the event occurs. they will then plot the data; watching for the signal to fall out and note which wheel it occurs on. If this is the case, the wheel speed sensor is replaced.

I removed the ABS fuses and the problem does not occur then. Tech2, any idea how much that will cost? Thanks everyone for your help.

When the "ABS goes off" do you see any lights on the dash to tell you it is activating?

It sounds like it does it once and that's it. If no lights display on the dash when it does it, I'd say it is just doing the self-test and this is normal. If you are going downhill and riding the brakes when you back out of your driveway, you are much more likely to feel a pulse in the brake pedal.

Again, I wouldn't worry about it unless you see a warning on the dash that tells you the ABS is engaging.
