Default 00 Express P0161 P0171 P0440

Hello all,

I am a new member. Car in question is my grandfathers 00 Express 1500 conversion van.
2000 model year, 1999 build date, 1500, 5.7l, 5 lug hubs, 160k miles

Its emissions time, and I am tired of the car giving him trouble, and would like to take care of these issues once and do it the right way.

Stopped by local auto parts store, and they ran the codes:
P0161- oxygen sensor, bank 2 sensor 2
P0171- bank 1 lean
P0440- Evap solenoid

He has had issues with the light being on, he has been getting away with it by just clearing the codes and taking it to the testing facility in a couple of hours.
We also had it at a dealer several years ago. 1000 later, all they found was one hose that was chewed up by a mouse, the replaced it, and the light came back in 2 days. They said it was a vacuum leak. Anyone had trouble with those? I will stop by a dealership tomorrow and try to have them print out what was done.

For the O2 sensor, I understand that will need to be replaced, however it is downstream from the cat, so the cat itself could be clogged causing the code?
The evan solenoid, is just another part to replace.

Its the 0171 code that confuses me me. I am thinking a MAF? What else could explain it.

I don't want to just throw parts at it, but any educated suggestions on a starting point?
It idles fine, but a little high when cold, and iI often shift it into neutral at a light. When running, the exhaust does not pop, but its not a steady flow of air either. It also drinks a little bit of coolant. THat might be a intake manifold leak, but that would not cause the above three codes.

If the downstream o2 sensor has an issue, then maybe the cat is failing. I would replace all the o2 sensors,, they are overdue. That might improve the idle, and the lean issue. The o2 sensors give info to the fuel system.
Once that's done I would get the emissions checked to see if the cats are okay.
If you are losing coolant, but cannot find a leak, then it might be the head gasket. Compression leaking into the water jacket forcing coolant out the overflow.
Pressure test the system, and see if you can narrow it down.
