Default 1500 rear axle gearing

Hey guys. I'm shopping for a 2013/2014 AWD. It seems most of them have the 3.42 axle. Does anybody know if they were ever sold with higher ratios like 3.72 and how common they are? Thanks.

That's funny. I just checked the 2013 and 2014 gmc savana brochure and both list the 3.73 as the stock axle ration on awd passenger vans. However mine has the 3.42 as does many others. Maybe it was an option. You only get 200 more lbs towing capacity with the 3.73 and you lose fuel economy. I am actually in favour of the 3.42

Higher ratio will get more torque to the wheels. Better for steep or squishy terrain. Especially if you plan to run bigger tires. I'm OK to sacrifice a bit of economy for that.

Thanks for the info.
