Default bogging issues and check engine light

Hey everyone, new to this forum. Bought an 04 Express 1500 a couple month ago and was running fine for a while with the check engine light turned on... didn't think too much of it.

Well battery died and I replaced it, but now the check engine light is gone, but the motor bogs when giving it gas. Also, the minute I put the van into Drive or Reverse the idle goes so low that it completely shuts off.

Is there a way I can check what code the van is giving off? or what I can possibly check that may be causing this?

A handheld code reader will tell you, but the shop ones are better. I would phone around a see if a shop with check your codes for free.
The dead battery cleared the check engine light, but it should come back if the same issue still exists.
Whatever the issue was that you ignored has caught up with you it seems.
Check the basics first, plugs wires, filters etc.....
Once you get the code, you will be able to narrow your search.
