Default Check Engine Soon light

Hi guys and ladies,
I have a 1989 G20 dayvan 5.7 which has done 37,000 miles and now the dashboard is showing the "Check Engine Soon" light and the engine is hunting for fuel then next time I use it she drives just fine, This is intermittent. I had this on a Toyota and it was the 02 Lamber sensor, Would this be the same on Chevrolet?

probably ,, but if you google how to read the codes on your van. all you need is a paperclip and your keys.

in all honesty how long has it been since the last tune up? plugs, wires, cap, rotor etc? sometimes best to start with the basics
