Express 1500 Van, 4l60e no forward gears until reserve is engaged

Express 1500 Van, 4l60e no forward gears until reserve is engaged
Van has I issue that I cannot figure out. Got in this morning and the van had not forward gears, almost as it there was no transmission. Nothing would make get it to move, increased rpm in "D" and "1", just nothing.
Then in reverse i let off the brake knowing I had about 5 inches behind me and it moved.
Shifted into "D" and if moved forward like nothing was wrong, in fact all the forward and reverse gears worked until I turned it off. Made no strange noises or anything, no slipping that I could feel.
Once again I had to shift into reverse before the forward gears function.
Is the transmission shot, or is something else wrong or want can be done to repair this issue.

4L60E had a pan job (filter/fluids) at 101K, nothing since. Thought that it was needed soon to extend the transmission life.
Any Information is appreciated, have searched the net for about 60 minutes.
