Hello

Any ideas anybody?

Ive replaced the lower manifold gaskets in my 2000 5.7 van, now it wont start!

Ive spent days making sure the timing is set right, making sure ive got TDC and then lining up the pointer to the number 8 inside the cap...(have even just mathodicly turned the distributor a tooth at a time all the way around to make sure i wasn't doing something wrong)

But set at the correct timing settings it just spins over like it wants to start but doesn't quite get there.

The van run great before i worked on it.

Also ive checked the fuel pump is giving the right starting psi readings. and have checked to see if it needs a 'passlock relearn' to the security system, but that checks out ok.

Ive read on here that a lot of people have the same problem after doing a manifold gasket job..but no solutions posted

Have spent another day on this

From what i can find the timing is good
the fuel pressure is good
the vehicle is trying to start
but when i remove the plugs they're bone dry
would indicate something is stoping the fuel at the fuel injection?

Any Ideas?

is the fuel pump relay closing? and are you getting spark out of the coil?

Yeah getting a good spark out the coil,

Not sure about the fuel pump relay closing though? on my computer its telling me both fuel systems are 'open loop' ??

put your finger on the relay when you turn the ignition switch. do you feel it close? you can also put a test light in there to check the PCM is energizing the circuit.

if the relay isnt clicking when you touch it, try replacing it with another(usually the AC relay). if it is closing then press the shrader valve and see if you are getting fuel at the rail. or at least getting fuel pressure.

Update

got the van started!

Found that the spark plugs were faulty

probably due to the fact the manifold gaskets had failed and water was getting in to the cylinders. Then leaving the van standing for a few weeks before i relaced the gaskets allowed the plugs to rust slightly
