Default timing

i have a 99 K2500 and i just replaced the timing chain. i put the distribitor back in and set the timing(or alteast i think i did). now when you start it up, it starts but almost immediately the rpms drop and starts to try to come back up but it doesnt. it only does this a few times before it runs ok. the only way to get it to stop sooner though is to hit the gas pedal and rev the engine up. then it straightens out... please help me i dont know what could be wrong with it. thanks a ton.
