454 7.4L Rubber in oil pan?!?!?
I have a 1982 Pace arrow that i recently aquired from a succession. Going over it with a fine tooth comb and decided to change all seals and gaskets since some were leaky. Long story short took the oil pan off to replace the gasket and clean the pickup screen blah blah all typical hoo ha, and discovered black rubber pieces in the pan. Reading online the most common thing i can see is the timing chain guide, BUT its plastic or metal so that pretty much rules that out. Talked to people here and there and everyone is either like WTF or possible plastic timing gears/cogs, timing guides, or the oil pump drive shaft plastic that holds the rods together, but it was in one piece till i decided to take it apart to clean it and, well, it broke HA! Got a new one for $0.50 lol no biggie. HOWEVER im leaning toward since its rubber and the only thing i have been able to figure out with my dim wittedness is the possibility of umbrella type valve stem seals that are falling apart?
Any sunngestion, comments and or talk downs much appreciated!!!
Thanks In Advance,

Yeah i've got cork valve cover gaskets so i doubt its that im going to pull the valve cover gaskets this comong weekend and replace ALL the valve stem seals on the engine so it will eliminate that problem and im guessing ill find the seal thats missing or seals. Got all new seals so ill pretty much be set. Also how much slack should i have on this engines timing chain? does it have a tensioner that is ran by oil pressure or? i do know it has a double timing chain. Its got 60k miles on the odo, should i replace or?

well it's down to vale stem seal's or the intake manifold end seal's ,depends on what was put in the rubber one's or just silicone . their is no kind of tensioner on the timing chain ,if it's been replaced before 60k is not a ton but if it is down that far and not that bad to get to it's cheap insurance all my big block's never broke a double row chain set .get a good cloye's brand .
