Alarm goes off when opening with key

Alarm goes off when opening with key
I have a 2000 Suburban. It has an OEM alarm system. When I set the alarm with the FOB and open the SUV with the key the alarm goes off. I can lock and unlock the SUV with the FOB fine. I can lock and unlock the SUV with the key (both driver side and passenger side). I can turn off the alarm with the FOB or put the key in the ingnition and turn ON the car to get the alarm to go off. The Sub may have something called Passlock but I don't know anything about it. There is a light on the dash that says SECURITY. If I press the FOB lock button once it locks the SUV. If I press the FOB lock button twice the SUV chirps.

more information
I'm sitting in the SUV when doing this:
When I turn off the SUV the Message Center light goes off.
When I turn off the SUV and open the door the Message Center flashes: SECURITY
When I close the door the Message Center light goes off.
When I open the door the Message Center light flahses: SECURITY
If I open the door and lock the door with the door button the Message Center light shows: SECURITY without flashing
If I then close the door the SECURITY light stays ON for about 15 then goes OFF
If I then unlock the door from the inside using the door button the alarm goes off. I can use the FOB to turn OFF the alarm.

When I press the lock button on the FOB is the alarm activated?
When I press the lock button on the FOB twice the SUV chirps. Do I have to press it twice to activate the alarm?
If I lock the SUV with the FOB does than mean I can't open the SUV using a key without the alarm going OFF?
Something has changed recently with this SUV. I didn't have a problem with the alarm going OFF when using the key in the past.
Sorry for all the questions.

I just read the manual and it says that opening the SUV with the key shouldn't make the alarm sound. This is cut and pasted from the manual:
Remember, the theft
If a door is opened without the key or the remote keyless
entry transmitter, the alarm will go off. Your vehicle’s
headlamps will flash and the horn will sound for about
two minutes, then will turn off to save the battery power.

Remember, the theft
-deterrent system won’t activate if
you lock the doors with a key or use the manual door
lock. It activates only if you use a power door lock
switch with the door open, or with the remote keyless
entry transmitter. You should also remember that you
can start your vehicle with the correct ignition key if the
alarm has been set off.
Here’s how to avoid setting off the alarm by accident:

If you don’t want to activate the theft-deterrent
system, the vehicle should be locked with the door

after the doors are closed.
Always unlock a door with a key, or use the remote
keyless entry transmitter. Unlocking a door any other
way will set off the alarm if the system has been armed.

Alarm going off when opening with key
When I unlock the SUV door with the key I can also hear the power lock device do its thing. Big clunk. The manual says that if I lock it with the inside power lock switch it turns the alarm ON. I'm thinking that if I use a key to open the SUV it's the same as if I were in the SUV and turned OFF the alarm with the inside power lock switch.
I respect your opinion. I know you know a lot more about cars than I ever will but it just seems wierd that GM would make vehicles that the alarm goes off if you open the vehicle with a key instead of the FOB. Do you own a GM vehicle with an OEM alarm? Would you humor me and lock you car with the FOB and open it with a key. Did the alarm go off?
