Default Any precautions for a 2005 Chevy that hasn't been run since last summer.

My dad has a 2005 Chevy 2500 truck with a camper that has been parked since last summer. He's been out of state since then so last summer was the last time it was running. Are there any precautions to do before starting it like treating the fuel or draining it if that's even possible? Thanks.

Water is always a concern, but a fuel additive with a water disperser in it should do the trick.

Check the radiator hoses for flexibility and your coolant for rust.
Check the accessory belt(s) for checking or polishing.
An oil change is ALWAYS a good idea.
Check all fluid levels, and smell the tranny fluid (automatic) for a burnt smell. If it smells, think about a change.

Other than that, fire it up and let her idle for a bit. Then drive easy just to remind all the parts what they're supposed to be able to do. After a short while you'll know if there is anything else to be done, but probably not if it worked well when parked.

The only thing I would be concerned with the state of the battery and fuel. Everything else tends to stay tight. If its only been 6 or so months, then I would just crank it, move it to concrete and change the oil.

Yup, he did need a new battery. Re: the fuel --I've been reading forums on fuel stabilizers and I see a lot of discussions regarding Sea Foam, Amsoil, Techron, Stabil to name what seems like the most popular. Is there a stabilizer and cleaner you could recomend?
