BAD GAS MILEAGE!
I recently picked up a cheap 1979 skylark with a 3.8 2bbl and auto trans. I have replaced the carb, adjusted mixture, set the timing, changed all the vacuum lines, fuel lines, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, et cetera. My gas milage is about 10 city, 13 hwy, 12 average. If I am very hard on the throttle, it can wander into single digit figures.
It has a high rear gear, so I'm not losing the milage there. I'm not sure what else to do, short of taking it to a professional.
If anybody knows the original figures as far as mileage, of if anybody can think of something I can do to it that I have not yet done, great. I bought this car to use as my daily driver. But my 1968 new yorker with a 440 dragging along three tons of dumb steel got better milage so something is very wrong!
P.S. I have also removed the catalytic converter.
