Default blown freeze plugs

k i got a 1965 small block 327. i built this motor a year ago and its been started twice. the other day i drained all my water out cause we had a freeze coming and didnt want a popped block. i went back yesterday and started it and heard a pop, pop. i couldnt figure out where it came from til today three freeze plugs popped out and hit the motor mount tower and the frame. what could have caused thios to happen if there was no water inthe block to freeze and budge the plugs.

Default RE: blown freeze plugs

When you drained the motor did you drain the block also by removing the block plugs?

Just curious.
