It attaches to the fuel pump and then to metal line

Do you guys think I can use rubber fuel and hose clamps instead of the $150 part? Supposedly the pump puts out 50 psi

The fuel hose should work as long as you can make a solid connection. Also remember to use hose rated for fuel injection.

oldchevy is probably right, as long as you make the Tubing long enough where it won't kink. It gets a bit more flexible when the temperature is increased, but...

If you can, you could use Copper Tubing and connect with (preferably) Flare, or Compression Connectors. Use a proper Tubing Bender, or anything round and about 4-5" in diameter, to hand roll the Copper into a "U".

PS:
They make Couplings for diameter changes, if I see the picture correctly.

At work we have a kit to repair or remake broken plastic lines. You could find a shop that has the kit.
Amazon.com: Dorman 800-301 Fuel Line Repair Tool: Automotive Amazon.com: Dorman 800-301 Fuel Line Repair Tool: Automotive

The are several DIY repair kits on the internet. Like the one in the link below. A parts store may even have it. Just make sure its the correct size.
Dorman 800-059 Nylon Fuel Line Repairkit : Amazon.com : Automotive

You could use rubber hose but it must be rated for high pressure fuel systems. They sell low pressure line (15psi) and high pressure (100psi). Also you need to use fuel injection clamps and not regular clamps. Use 2 clamps on both ends if you have the room.
