Default Carb

I have a 1980 Chevy pickup and it has a four barrel carb and for some reason the large barrels wont open and work when they are needed? Any hints on where to start looking?
Thanks

with the engine off, have someone mash the pedal to the floor. Check to see if the throttle opens enough to open the 4 barrels. It could be that your cable has stretched enough that it won't fully open the throttle, or your gas pedal is obstructed. Just a thought.

Default RE: Carb

what intake and what carb do you have? the reason im asking is some intakes will bolt down both styles of carbs (holley flange and spreadbore), but the intake is really designed for holley only. on an intake like this, an edelbrock (spreadbore) carb will bolt down to the intake, but the huge secondaries wont open because the butterflys hit the intake. Ive run into this before. If thats the case, being that you have a 1980 pickup, you got TONS of room under that hood. your cheapest way out is to go to the parts house and buy a 1 or 2" carb spacer and two new carb gaskets. AND it'll give you about 10 more hp to boot! :-D
