Default Knocking???

Okay so this is what happened today. Coming home and doing 75 down the interstate...my speed starts dropping...i press harder on the gas...it drops till the truck just up and quit. (I have a 93 GMC1500 SWB V6) Towed it home. Wouldnt even turn over for at least an hr or 2. I got it to start up but its running VERY rough. If I press the gas it idles up like normal...but when I let off and its idling back down it makes a tick tick tick tick sound till its idling normal again...then the ticking stops. NO Idea what this could be...any ideas?? I am too scared to drive it to a shop right now as I will most likely get stuck again.

Ive been told by several people that my truck may have skipped timing as well. Its startin up perfectly now but is idling very roughly. Ive heard that a timing belt tensioner however could make noise if its going bad, like a rattling noise, could be confused with an engine knock, or ping...
