1996 Lumina (3.1) are these OBD-1sies or 2sies? Or short pole 1 and 2 and read the flashes?

OBD II. You need a code reader to pull the codes.

Any code reader will work fine. There are some that read codes, some that read AND erase codes. If you wanted to buy one instead of getting a free scan at an auto parts store, you need one that can erase codes.A good rule of thumb when trying to tell if a vehicle is OBD I or II is the year model. Generally anything 95 and newer will be OBDII.There is also a different diagnostic port for OBDII.
