Default plow

i have an 86 chevy 3/4 ton pickup 4x4. i was thinking about mounting a plow onto it. do plows put a lot of stress on the truck or wear anypart of the truck quickly?

well think about it for a minute and answer your own question, last plow I tried to pick up weighed about 700lbs, so add that to the front end of any truck and yes it will wear things faster, but you only have it on there for 6 months max......never leave the blade up and truck parked, and add weight to the bed as well, or you will get no where, you should be fine with a 3/4, they are built for that, we plow our dealership lot with a 79 1/2 short box with an old 305, it does fine.....

Also depends on the plow you can get some nice light weight ones nowadays.......

on that note you will find out pretty fast what front end parts are worn out now, first time you bump a curb, and hit a snow bankd to hard, have someone go over the tie rod ends, springsbushings, (guessing its leaf front and back?) even your u joints, they take a beating as well, and your trans, we replace about 1 every 2 maybe 3 seasones of plowing, but like I said we use a half tone, on a 16 acre dealer lot LOL [],
we abuse it pretty good, but it just keeps going...
