Popping from carb

Popping from carb
Here's my problem. I've got a 72 GMC Sprint with a GM crate 350, turbo 350 trans. I just put a new edelbrock carb on it recently. The issue is when i start to accelerate i get sluggish response and get a popping sound from the carb. Once its at temp and i'm past that throttle position it runs great. I'm looking for a starting point to troubleshoot this problem.
Thanks

RE: Popping from carb
From muchprevious experience, I will say check the following on top of what the others guys here said and you will find your problem. Check the following...
Power Valve
Accelerator Pump
FOR DANG SURE CHECK Choke(Makes a big *** difference)
Make sure your needle and seat are properly set
BASELINING:
1. Take your A/F mixture screws on your carb to lightly closed(Hell, close the dang things)
2. Turn both or all four mix screws out 1 1/2 turns
3. Take your choke to TDC... Where the name is actually on the top straight
4. Twist the choke to make 20-25 degrees to the left
Test it, you may think is sluggish at first but if you see everything works well during this phase. After your car has reached full temp...
1. Take the a/f mix screws out maye 1/4 of a turn.
2. Rev as high as you can and watch the muffler pipes...
2a. After you rev and the engine is idling down and you see white smoke, take the mix screws out a quarter at a time. If it's black whether on rev up or idle down, then back the mix screws in 1 1/4 of a turn EVENLY.
Make a couple quick revs and make sure your choke plate is straight up (when the engine is at full temp that is)
Now I know you said you have a edelbrock and not really familiar with those carbs but if you see something on here you don't have, then bypass what you don't have. :-)
I tried guys but that step has worked for me plenty of times. Matter of fact I am baseling my S10 355ci tonight.
