Default straight wired distributor

hey i got a 85 s-10 w/ a camed 305, should the distributor be straight wired from the battery? i bought the truck as is and am going through it a little at the time all help or advice appreciated thanks

Do you mean to the distributor or to an ignition module?

You need a coil. You can't just wire it straight to the battery. It'll never have enough juice to arc.
