Default Timing

I just got done timing my truck and it seems to be running a little hotter than normal. After I let it cool down, I am going to check the coolant level, however if my timing is too far advanced, will this cause the engine to heat up faster? Should I back off my advance to run cooler or what? Right now I have it advanced about 11deg BTDC. I can't check my total timing because I don't have an RPM guage. Any advice will help.
