Default timing problem with 96 4.3 s10

I bought a 96 s10 with no motor and the person I got it from also gave me a 95 4.3 motor. I cannot seem to get it in time. Do I have to change all the sensors to 96 sensors or do I have to change them all to 95 sensors. right now i have the 96 distributor and the 96 computer in the truck. I already destroyed a starter with all the back lash from bad timing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Dennis
Update. I found out that the timing was off 180 degrees. Now it starts fine but has a rough idle? Any ideas on what that could be?
