Default Turn signals work sometimes

I have a 2000 Impala that the turn signals work only sometimes.
I hate intermittent problems. How hard is it to change out the mechanism in the steering column?
Thanks in advance, Richard B

Before you do that I have replaced more hazard lamp switches to fix that problem than the turn lamp switch. The next time they don't work tap on the hazard switch. The flasher for the turn lamps is built in to it.

Junkman104, thanks for the info. I'll pass that on to my grand daughter as it is her car now.
