Default 2006 Impala SS electrical short

My step son Nick has an electrical short in his 5.3L V8. The battery would discharge overnight, to the point he would need a jump in the morning. Eventually the battery failed, we replaced it last night.

We've checked the battery cables for wear, found a few spots where the insulation was worn from rubbing on the frame or such, patched them up, but we still see a power draw when connecting the positive battery cable with the key off. I know there is always some draw for engine computer, radio, etc, but it still seems excessive. We have new battery cables on order (as the PO had replaced the ends with those cheap clamps), but if anyone can give us an idea of where to look, it would be appreciated.

Thanks, Tom

you will have to isolate the circuit causing the parasitic draw.

I would use a battery cut off switch. When you disconnect the neg terminal and reconnect it all the modules will wake up and the draw may be high enough to blow your meter fuse. this tool allows you to hook up your meter and allow the modules to power down without blowing the meter fuse http://www.princessauto.com/pal/Batt...itch/4210962.p
