Default FOB battery question

I have a 08 Impala. Just lately my key FOB won't work unless I'm right next to the drivers door. Anywhere else and it won't work. Is this a sign the battery is going dead or something else? Never had an issue before.

The other fob works fine. If it is the battery, why is it working every time next to the drivers door and not anywhere else? Shouldn't it not work at all?

The battery must not be fully drained.
