1 dot in 5,000 miles??? that's nothing.

if your down a full quart >=4 dots in 3000 miles, that's something.

GM's 3.6L is an awesome engine. Very complex (variable valve, direct injection, avail. cylinder cut off), but not an oil burner. I wouldn't have paid $36K without a ton of research. The engine is solid. Kids have been abusing 3.6L Camaros since 2009 and I've seen no indication of issues.

On those other boards, they push those engine intake oil catch cans to prevent buildup on valves.

Valves need oil, but I know you knew that. I think catch cans are to catch the oil that gets sucked up into the air intake plumbing. Not exactly a major issue even if true.

Here's more info on this amazing engine from a bias source (still a good read!):
GM 3.6 Liter V6 LFX Engine Info, Power, Specs, Wiki | GM Authority

For better or worse, they use it in every class of car in every subdivision. GM would be out of business if this engine was dud.
