Unknown Check Engine light Question.
I have a check engine light thats been on for a few weeks. I took my car to get a diagnostic and the code is the same one you get when your gas cap is not on tight. I make sure the cap is on tight and I even bought new one from the dealer. 3 weeks later... the check engine light is still on and its still giving the same code. It not the gas cap, what else could this be?
Thanks

RE: Unknown Check Engine light Question.
I'm in the same boat with my '03 Impala. I did however get the problem figured out......It's the fuel tank purge solinoid stuck open. My question is, does anyone here know where on the car this solenoid is? The local dealers won't give this information out. Thanks.

RE: Unknown Check Engine light Question.
It's an EVAP code which means something in the EVAP system is leaking. Could be a solenoid stuck open or soemthing like that like the guy above, loose gas cap, cracked or leaking charcoal canister, etc.
I don't know how to check any of this stuff at home but at dealerships we use a smoke machine that produces smoke and then we check for leaks.

Found the solenoid/valve. It's up on the intake manifold. $22.00 at the GM parts counter, installed part last night and reset the MIL. Now we'll see if it comes back on.

I dont think you can reset the check engine light with the radio. You can reset the oil life monitor. Take it to autozone they should be able to reset it for you. They do that around here any way. JHH

I have a 2013 impala ltz, doing the same thing. Does this fall under powertrain and is it still under warranty? I will begin researching now, thank you.
