Default 03 malibu turn signals working intermittently

My 03 Malibu turn signals work intermittently. None of the bulbs are burned out. The hazards work, but the blinkers do not. Can someone please tell me what could be wrong and what would it take to fix it?

Default 2002 Malibu Intermittent, etc. Turn Signal/Hazard Flashers

Howard

My daughter's friend has an '02 Malibu with similar problems. You might want to look into this GM Policy update posted by the NHTSA as Action Number: PE05055.

Summary:
IN DECEMBER 2004, GM ISSUED A SPECIAL POLICY FOR MY 1999-2000 ALERO, GRAND AM AND MALIBU VEHICLES NOT COVERED UNDER RECALL 03V327. THE POLICY COVERED TURN SIGNAL/HAZARD FLASHER FAILURE FOR A PERIOD OF 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES (WHICHEVER OCCURRED FIRST) TO PROVIDE A NO COST REPLACEMENT OF THE HAZARD SWITCH. GM SENT LETTERS TO OWNERS STARTING DECEMBER 30, 2004. IN JANUARY 2006, GM WILL UPDATE THE SPECIAL POLICY TO INCLUDE MY 2002 ALERO, GRAND AM AND MALIBU VEHICLES NOT COVERED UNDER RECALL 03V-327. THE POLICY COVERS TURN SIGNAL/HAZARD FLASHER FAILURE FOR A PERIOD OF 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES (WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST) TO PROVIDE A NO COST REPLACEMENT OF THE HAZARD SWITCH. GM WILL SEND LETTERS TO OWNERS STARTING LATE APRIL 2006. THE ACTIONS TAKEN BY THE MANUFACTURER IS SUFFICIENT TO RESOLVE THE ISSUES RAISED BY THIS INVESTIGATION. THE CLOSING OF THIS INVESTIGATION DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A FINDING BY NHTSA THAT NO SAFETY-RELATED DEFECT EXISTS. THE AGENCY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO TAKE FUTURE ACTION IF WARRANTED BY THE CIRCUMSTANCES.

Here is the NHTSA link to this Action:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...h&summary=true

You might want to contact Chevrolet about this policy update at the 800 number in golfer's post.

HTH.
MoJo

Unfortunately, my daughter's '04 Malibu has "left turn signal on steroids" issues that I'm looking into and does not appear to be covered by GM at this time.
