My car cranks and fuel pump hums, so why won't it start

can you have someone check for codes?
Did it just not start one morning or did it quit running while driving?
can you check for spark? one way is to use starting fluid sprayed into the intake - I remove a hose and spray it in there.
If it starts for a second or two, you have spark but the fuel is not getting from the fuel pump to the cylinders. The injectors don't operate until the PCM tells them to, The pcm looks for a signal from the crank sensor to determine when each injector should squirt.
If it doesn't start from the starting fluid, you have no spark. could be the ignition module

It was the crankshaft position sensor that sits behind the balancer.

I have a 2003 malibu an not getting power to the ignition, the fuel gauge not working, the anti theft light is not on.It just cranks over

wont start just cranks over, no power to the ignition, the gauges not working, everthing eles works

Check the fuses. look for "ECM"and / or "IGN MOD".

If it is the ECM fuse, we will need to look for what caused it to blow. Those fuses usually do not blow unless there is a short or ?? something

Also check ground wires. or continuity from the ignition module's ground wire to another ground.
