Replacing an Engine

Replacing an Engine
Howdy good folks, I'm new here.
I'm the second owner of a 2005 Chevy Malibu (base model), bought it in February with 96,000 and change, now several months and 10,000 miles later the engine is rattling like crazy. A professional mechanic and my hobby-mechanic brother in law both concurred an engine replacement is needed.
What I'm having trouble with is finding an engine for a half-way decent price. the 3500 or 4000 to replace it through a shop is not an option. Any thoughts?

Thank you for that link. Found out my dad found an engine, but I will bookmark that for future use if or when the need arises. Also, learned a lesson tonight as we drained the old engine--Never take a car to Wal-Mart for an oil change. 200 miles since we took it in, and the oil looks like it was never changed...
